By July of 1924, preliminary plans had been proposed for a new Infirmary Building for women; and specifications were prepared. The site selected was the high ground at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Henry Ruff road. Previously, this had been the site of the grain and stock barn which was erected in 1886 but torn down in 1923 to make room for the new building. The building was completed in 1925 with a capacity of 300 beds at a cost of $445,000. Originally designated as “D” Building it was later renamed “A” in 1932.
